Wynn casino: $8 million for Orange Line

Getting a seat on a crowded train and actually having that train run on time can feel like winning a jackpot, but Steve Wynn is going one further.

Wynn, who has been trying to build a casino in Everett across the Mystic River from Boston’s Charlestown neighborhood and Somerville over opposition from Mayors Martin Walsh and Joe Curtatone, has offered to contribute $7.4 million to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority over the course of 15 years.

It marks the first time a developer has contributed to the transit authority.

(This is from August, but I’m just learning about it today.)

  1. This comes out to something like one or two extra trains in service on the Orange Line. Presumably, this would be used to improve off-peak headways a bit, say from 10 minutes to 8 on the weekends.
