The site of a church that burned vdown at 410 West Broadway in South Boston could become a five story building with 24 condos, according to a new filing with the Boston Redevelopment Authority. On the ground floor, 3200 square feet will be set aside for commercial use and 28 parking spaces will be provided in a surface garage and in the basement. The top of the building will feature a common roof deck. Each of the residences will have two-bedrooms. Three of the condos will be affordable.
Saint John the Baptist Albanian Orthodox church burned down in 2013. Before the parish purchased the building in 1948 it was home to an Episcopal parish of St Matthew. Developer Douglas George purchased the site last year.
While the usual South Boston complaints about parking and density will be heard, the architecture appears to be a great deal more traditional than many other new buildings going up.
