East Boston isn’t getting left behind in the rush to build new housing in Boston. East Boston Management and Development, LLC, has filed plans with the Boston Redevelopment Authority to build a three story, 23 unit apartment building at 202-206 Maverick St. Three existing commercial/industrial buildings will be demolished and 20 parking spaces will be provided in an underground lot. Two of the apartments will be on a penthouse level and three will be set aside as affordable.
The site is 8,050 square feet and is less than half a mile from Maverick Station on the Blue Line and even closer to the East Boston Greenway. The total artea of the completed building will be 22,700 square feet. Storage for 30 bicycles will be included, as well.
Zoning variances for its rear yard setback, height, floor-area-ratio, parking and open space will be needed.
Designed by Hresko Associates, the building has a wonderful traditional architecture, with brick, framed windows, a turrett and a cornice. It’s very similar to existing buildings in the neighborhood, to say nothing of other parts of Boston.
The BRA is holding a public meeting on the project April 19 at 7:00 pm at the East Boston Community Center.
