A garage at 135 Fulkerson Street in East Cambridge very near to Kendall Square could become apartments, according to an application narrative filed with the Cambridge Planning and Community Development Department by developer Cabot Cabot and Forbes. They plan on building 40 residences in a three story building occupying 14,459 square feet of a one acre site.
Five of the apartments will be affordable under Cambridge’s inclusionary zoning policy and much of the area of the lot will be taken up by a 40-car parking lot. Bicycle storage will be provided on the property, as will public access to the Grand Junction Community Path, the first portion of which, opened in June, according to The Cambridge Tab.
The building currently on the site, a one story concrete building covering over 37,000 square feet, will be torn down.
The developer does not believe any zoning variances are requiered, which is probably why they have such a large parking lot even though its close to public transport, the bike path and the employment centers of East Cambridge and Kendall Square.
