M&H Realty Trust has applied for a special permit to build an apartment building at 305 Webster Ave in Cambridge, at its intersection with Columbia Street. The site has an area of 18,140 square feet and the proposed project will have 37,510 square feet. In addition to 35 apartments, the project will have 1,780 square feet of retail on the ground floor.
The project is planned with 35 paerking spaces and 44 bicycle storage spaces. On the border between Inman Square and East Cambridge, the site is served by some infrequent bus routes, but it’s a pretty flat part of Cambridge in a walkable area, so walking to Harvard, Central, Kendall or Lechmere on nice days is an option and there’s plenty of cycling even if the infrastructure leaves a lot to be desired. The site is within walking distance of the future Green Line station for Union Square, Somerville, but one shouldn’t hold one’s breath waiting for it.
Currently there’s a building that was used as an autoparts store on the site. The apartments will be a mix of one, two and three bedroom units, plus two live/work spaces.
A public hearing on the proposal will be held 7:00 pm September 27 at the City Hall Annex in Cambridge.
